• Could Soon Have Luxury Travel in Airship

We could one day be spending our holidays in a gigantic vertical airship that floats thousands of meters above ground if a design concept by Seymourpowell becomes reality.

    scroll down to continue reading

The project dubbed the Aircruise is a radical new design that promises to accommodate guests in a 265-meter tall hotel that could float above city skylines or over dramatic landscapes.

“The Aircruise concept questions whether the future of luxury travel should be based around space-constrained, resource hungry, and all too often stressful airline travel,” Nick Talbot, head of transportation at Seymourpowell said.

“A more serene transport experience will appeal to people looking for a more reflective journey, where the experience of travel itself is more important than getting from A to B quickly.”

While the Aircruise is only a conceptual proposal, designers developed a detailed and achievable technical plan for the craft that could allow it to be built in the future.  A maximum of 100 guests and crew would be allowed onboard and there would only be 10 luxury apartments available for rent.  There would also be large internal spaces for dining as well as a bar and lounge area for passengers.

“I can’t think of another way you can experience pure luxury travel,” Talbot said.  “Imagine sitting in your stateroom and seeing the Serengeti below you or floating above the tallest skyscraper in the world.”

Hydrogen gas would be used as the primary lifting gas and it would be capable of lifting around 1.2 kg per cubic meter of volume.  Large hydrogen fuel cells would also provide on board power and some drinking water. The cruising speed of the Aircruise would range from 100 to 150 kilometers an hour and a journey from London to New York would take 37 hours.

“We think the new form of luxury will be those that have the time to enjoy an experience,” Talbot said.

“We think of this as taking a cruise, except you’d be floating high above the earth.”

The Aircruise’s designers say that it would take a huge amount of money to actually build such a thing and at its current stage, it’s only a feasibility study.

How to Select Dress Based on Body Shape?

When shopping for a new dress this season, be sure to keep your body type in mind. By following these simple tips, you can accentuate the positive and downplay the areas of your body that… well, aren’t so perfect.

    Full hips and thighs

For pair-shaped women with full hips and thighs, the dress should shouldn’t be shorter than an inch or two above the knee. Select a dress with an A-line skirt but not something too full. A short, fuller dress will look like a tu-tu.

Adrianna Papell printed halter dress To draw the attention away from your lower body, select a dress with a plunging V-neck, halter top or embellished neckline.

    Thick waist

If you are apple-shaped with a thick middle, you need to elongate the look your torso and draw the attention away from your waist. Select a dress with an empire waist or drop waist to re-define your waist line.

Avoid thick belts cinched around your waist and instead choose a chain or sash belt slung low on your hips.

    Heavy arms

Sleeveless and cap sleeve dresses aren’t for you. Instead, select billowy, bell sleeves that are 3/4 or even full-length to hide flabby arms.

Use hand-held dumbbells 15 minutes a day to get your arms in tip-top shape.

    Small bust

If you weren’t endowed with ample breasts, avoid deep plunging necklines. Instead select dresses with a scoop or bandeau neck with sequins or other adornments to add a little dimension up top.

Layered necklaces are very popular right now and they can add some dimension to depth to your bust. You can also follow these simple instructions to make your breast look bigger with makeup to enhance your cleavage.

    Big bust

Dresses with halter tops and deep V’s are very attractive for women who want to accentuate their big bust. Select fabrics that aren’t skim your body rather than bind, which can make your breasts look too big.

To draw some attention away from your bust and balance out a smaller lower body, choose a dress with an A-line skirt that falls one or two inches above your knees.

    Plus size

Don’t pack on layers of baggy clothes to try to cover-up your body. Contrary to what you may believe, baggy dresses will just make you look bigger. Select fabrics that don’t cling to your body, but drape nicely.

A wrap dress is particularly flattering to full-figured women. Don’t avoid color and prints. The colorful collection of plus-sized dresses at Avenue.com offers a variety of different types of dresses for full figured women, including bold prints and sexy styles.

    Too thin

Sweater or knit dresses are terrific options for thin women. Add layers to your dress, such as a cardigan or fitted jacket to add some bulk. If you have extremely thin legs, avoid mini-skirts and choose longer, flowing dresses instead.

Thin women can add a thick belt to give their waist more definition. Bubble dresses are very trendy right now and can also give the appearance of a larger lower body.

    Shift to the shift

The shift is a dress that hangs straight down from the shoulder. It’s a dress type that is flattering to almost everyone. It skims your body nicely, but doesn’t cling. For summer, you can find shifts in cool cotton, linen and light knits. When fall arrives, wool and heavier knit shifts will continue to be popular.

Though the typical shift dress has a straight skirt, some fashion designers have created shifts with a slightly A-line cut this season.

The Lilly Pulitzer crocheted shift dress pictured here is perfect for a summer party. It’s beaded jeweled neckline adds some glitz. You can get this dress for $328 from Nordstrom.

Whatever your body type, you can find a beautiful dress that will flatter your figure. When shopping, bring a trusted girlfriend along for her honest opinion and be sure to look at the dress from all angles in the dressing room mirror.

Remember to accentuate the positive and don’t obsess with the negative. If you dress confident, you will look and feel beautiful too!

5 Types of Suits Men Must Have in Warddrobe

    1. The Gray Suit

Think of it as the anchor of your business wardrobe—strong, elegant, and always appropriate, whether you’re interviewing for your first job or addressing the shareholders at your last. A gray suit looks sharp and clean with a white, soft blue, or light pink shirt but is versatile enough that it’ll go with just about anything. Any shade will do, but we recommend a medium gray, like the one this gentleman is wearing. Click on the NEXT button below for the season’s best gray suits, in three price points.

    2. The Solid Navy Suit

You can’t go wrong here. A navy suit is always a safe, classic choice, and it travels seamlessly from the boardroom to an evening out. It lends itself well to almost any shirt-and-tie combination, but to up the elegance factor, pair it with a crisp white shirt, a dark solid tie, and a pocket square (think Cary Grant).

    3. The Solid Black Suit

It used to be that a black suit wasn’t a safe choice for the office, but these days it’s a staple. Just make sure yours is cut on the slim side and fits correctly. (However you feel about your job, you don’t want to look like you work in a funeral home.)  Anyway, black suit is the most common one in Hong Kong.

Black SuitSuit, $3,295, by Giorgio Armani. Shirt, $475, by Giorgio Armani. Tie, $125, by Band of Outsiders.

    4. The Pin-Striped Navy Suit

A cool classic that exudes confidence. You can anchor it with a solid shirt and tie or get adventurous— mixed it with a striped shirt and a striped tie. Just keep the components within one basic-color family and make sure that the stripes of the suit, shirt, and tie aren’t too close in scale; one of the patterns should be bold and the other two more muted.

Pin-striped suitSuit, $1,590, by Etro. Shirt, $59, by Tommy Hilfiger. Tie, $98, by Emporio Armani.

    5. The Khaki Cotton Suit

A business wardrobe might consist mostly of dark suits, but spring and summer give you the chance to lighten up (literally). Do it in style with a khaki cotton suit. Pair it with a solid (blue, white, or pink) shirt and a dark tie for the office, then loosen it up (e.g., lose the tie and socks) for an evening out.

2010 Fashion Trend Inspired by 67th Golden Globes

Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Kate Hudson, Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon. A fashionista’s dream team and we’re about to get a massive, massive, massive dose of glamour this weekend at The 67th Annual Golden Globes!

“You never really know what people will wear, you never do. They could all walk out in black caftans for all we know, it’s always a surprise!”

That’s InStyle Fashion Director Hal Rubenstein. Hal says it’s hard to make predictions, but he definitely has ideas on five cool things we could see Sunday at the Globes as well as a few opinions on what people should wear.

    1. SHORT IS SWEET
“Young actresses should wear short,” Hal says. “I think it’s odd for young girls to wear these big dresses. If you’re on the cast of ‘Glee’ or Carey Mulligan, what could be cooler than wearing a sexy short dress? You’re only young once, only got skin like that once, show it off!”

    2. COLOR, OF COURSE
“But unexpected color,” Hal says. “Instead of black, white, pink or red, look for deep fuchsia or really dark teal. You might also see prints because there are so many extraordinary prints this season thanks to advances in technology. Someone with a fun, bold personality like Kate Hudson can pull off a print beautifully.”

    3. GROWN UP GLAMOUR
“We will still see ‘The Big Dress’ on someone like Penelope Cruz. But also look out for dresses that are closer to the body, less ball gown-ish.” Hal loves that evening wear right now is “designed for grownups and by that I mean anyone over the age of 12 and more than a size zero! Women have curves and evening wear is more sensual, more womanly,” which is perfect when nominees include actresses Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock.

    4. RED CARPET RISK TAKERS
“No one wanted to be destroyed in tabloids the next day and people got safe. But every year, the range of looks gets wider and wider and there are more and more possibilities. With more choices, expect less of a cookie cutter look. Look for dresses that have incredible embroidery, layering, texturing of the fabric and prints.”

    5. NOT YOUR USUAL BLING
“I think jewelry will be more exotic. Some people will wear classic jewelry from the big houses, but there are so many other amazing pieces out there.” Hal says look for mixed stones and jewelry with a more romantic flair, as well as jewels with Indian influences and Eastern exoticism.

Complaints for Google’s Nexus One Phone

Google’s Nexus One phone may have been one of the most anticipated devices of the last few weeks. But since the smartphone’s launch last Tuesday, it has left a string of unhappy customers in its wake.

Nexus One has been plagued by consumer complaints including spotty 3G connectivity, a high early termination fee, poor customer support from Google and problems with the touchscreen.

“There are some aspects of the experience that Google didn’t think through as carefully as they should have,” says Charles Golvin, an analyst with Forrester Research. “This has implications for the store they have launched and their future ambitions for it. Google, clearly, has a lot of work ahead of it.”

Google introduced the Nexus One as the first device to be sold by the search company itself, rather than a manufacturing or carrier partner. The Nexus One, which runs Android 2.1, has been designed by HTC and works with T-Mobile’s network in the United States.

But contrary to initial speculation, the device isn’t free. It will retail for $180 with a 2-year contract with T-Mobile. An unlocked version is also available for $530 — a price similar to most other smartphones — and that version will work on other GSM phone networks worldwide as well as AT&T in the United States, although with some limitations.

The difference, though, is the Nexus One is available only through Google’s online store. Unlike with a Motorola Cliq or a HTC G1, users can’t walk into a T-Mobile store and buy the Nexus One.

They can’t even count on T-Mobile’s customer service representatives in store or the company’s phone support to solve their problems.

It’s a strategy that has backfired on Google. The company’s support forums are full of customer complaints around the Nexus and the company’s poor service.

“A lot of complaints and frustration that people are expressing would normally be handled by going back into the store or by calling the support help line,” says Golvin. “Having a physical location where you can take your phone back helps customers and Google seems to have underestimated that.”

“Solving customer support issues is extremely important to us, because we want people to have a positive Nexus One experience,” says a Google spokesperson. “We are trying to be as open and transparent as possible through our online customer help forums.”

Many of the customer complaints are centered about the device’s inability to connect to T-Mobile’s 3G network. The Nexus One does not pick up the 3G network or keeps switching to the slower EDGE network, say some users.

A Google spokesperson says the company is aware of the problem. “We are aware of the issues that have affected a small number of users and are working quickly to fix any problems,” the spokesperson told Wired.com in an email. “We hope to have more information soon. When we do, we will post it to the user forum.”

Add to all this Google’s decision to charge a separate early termination fee in addition to the one charged by T-Mobile. Nexus One customers who bought the subsidized, $180 version and then decide to cancel their contracts will have to pay $200 to T-Mobile.

But Google also charges users a $350 “equipment recovery fee” if you give up on the contract within 120 days.

Including all charges, Nexus One customers who want to bail early will end up paying $550. That’s significantly higher than the controversial $350 early termination fee imposed by Verizon last year.

“Google provides a subsidy for devices purchased with T-Mobile USA service. If a consumer cancels service after 14 days, Google recoups this subsidy in the form of an equipment recovery fee,” says the Google spokesperson.

“After 120 days, the equipment recovery fee will no longer apply. This is standard practice for third party resellers of T-Mobile and other operators, and you will find similar policies for other mobile service resellers. The T-Mobile early termination fee is separate and handled by T-Mobile.”

Despite the problems, Google can bounce back, says Golvin. Customer dissatisfaction is likely to be just a small speed bump in the road for Google’s mobile ambitions, he says.

“Google tends to have a bit of a Teflon coating,” says Golvin. “People tend to cut them a lot more slack — as they do with Apple — than they do with their mobile operator.”

Simon Cowell is Leaving American Idol

I am extremely said about reading this news!! If Simon is not present, does the talent show “American Idol” still American Idol?

Longtime “American Idol” judge Simon Cowell said he’ll be leaving the popular Fox talent show at the end of the season, the network announced Monday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, California.

Cowell’s popular U.K. talent show, “The X Factor,” will be coming to the United States in the fall of 2011 with the acerbic critic in tow, according to Fox.

“I want to leave ‘Idol’ this year bigger and better than it was in the past,” Cowell said at the TCA tour Monday.

Cowell will be both executive producer and judge on “The X Factor.”

    simon-cowell

“I’m thrilled that we have put a date on the launch of the U.S. version of ‘The X Factor,’ and delighted to be continuing to work with Fox,” said Cowell in a statement. “We have a fantastic relationship, a great team and are all very excited about this.”

Speculation has raged for weeks as to Cowell’s future. Though he’s well paid for his “Idol” work — an estimated $36 million per season — he has expressed a desire to focus on “The X Factor.”

Cowell said at the press session that it’s taken some time to reach an agreement for his new duties, hence the buzz. (Indeed, he signed the last page of his “contract” on stage with Fox executives Peter Rice and Kevin Reilly.)

“[I] didn’t think it was right to do two shows in America at the same time, so [I] decided to leave one and start another,” he said.

He said he missed Paula Abdul, the former “Idol” judge who left the show in August, but wouldn’t confirm or deny whether she would appear on “X Factor” in the U.S. Cowell and Abdul had a good-naturedly contentious relationship on “Idol,” with the tough-minded Brit often acting as bad cop to the “Forever Your Girl” singer’s good cop.

“So this just happened, Simon Cowell just announced that he’s leaving ‘Idol.’ This will be his last season. He announced he’s leaving on my first day. I’m trying not to take it personally,” she said. “But seriously, I am going to be very, very sad to see him go, because I think he’s made the show what it is. He’s a huge part of that show but he wanted a change. I wish him all the luck in the world hosting ‘The Tonight Show,’ ” said DeGeneres, referring to widespread speculation about how NBC will resolve its issues with its late-night talk shows. In reality, of course, Simon Cowell has not been part of that speculation.

Since its premiere in 2002, “Idol” has been an entertainment phenomenon, regularly ranking as TV’s top show, creating several musical stars and pulling in millions more viewers than its closest competition. Its new season premieres Tuesday.

Cowell’s presence has been credited as a major reason. The British music executive was a judge on the British version of “Idol,” “Pop Idol,” and came to the United States when Fox imported the show. Unlike judges on many American talent shows, Cowell didn’t sugar-coat his criticisms to contestants.

With the show’s growing popularity — by its fourth season it was the top show on television, a rank it has held ever since — Cowell and fellow “Idol” players Abdul, judge Randy Jackson and amiable host Ryan Seacrest became stars in their own right.

Though the show continues to dominate American TV, ratings have started sliding in “Idol’s” past two seasons. But Cowell told the TCA audience he had no doubt about the show’s future.

It will “continue to be the No. 1 show” in the country, Cowell said. The show has given him “the best days of my life.”

Asked who should replace him, he jokingly suggested Seacrest, with whom Cowell has also good-naturedly tangled. The Fox executives said they’re not going to rush to find Cowell’s replacement.

Men Fashion Style in 2010 Suggestion

Fashion always involves some investment. Fortunately, it’s not an expense that you have to incur very frequently, especially if you subscribe to the quality over quantity principle. 2010 is bound to bring with it a whole year’s worth of new trends in men’s style, which likely means a purchase or two down the road. Spotting these trends ahead, however, lets you buy all the key items early on, before they’re so popular, and so expensive.

    Plastic Watch
Since men’s fashion is all about heritage, tradition and quality, it might seem strange that plastic would get recommended for an item that’s usually done in precious metals. This year, however, you just might be seeing a shift in public attitudes toward plastic watches.

Plastic timepieces are largely restricted to a young, prepubescent audience that’s fond of bright colors and cheap goods. Your segment of the market, however, isn’t always averse to such things; it looks like bright colors will be an upcoming trend in the spring, while few men are against buying inexpensive fashion. Plastic watches might not be a long term commitment, but they’re worth buying for the next year or so.

What’s not to like about them (besides the material)? They’re functional. They’re fun. And with manufacturers like Nixon selling them for less than $100 a pop, they offer pretty good value for money. If you want a quick style piece that adds a jolt of color, this is it. Throw it on over any casual outfit or to give shock value to your usual office attire.

    Structured Leather Bag
Men’s luggage is one segment of the market that’s been changing quite a lot these past couple of years – fairly rapid, all things considered. From artisanal leather to outdoorsy canvas, trends in bags have been coming hard and fast. The next movement looks like it’s in the direction of luxurious leather bags that have some structure to them.

As financial problems forced everyone – including the fashion industry – to go back to the basics, so did the design perspective on bags. But since there’s a near consensus on how stuffy the traditional old briefcase is, a less rigid (but still structured) replacement was in order. Look for ones that have a defined rectangular shape, but aren’t necessarily rigid all throughout so that you avoid the look of the ancestral briefcase.

Choose it like you would any other item for work. That is, minimize external detailing and prioritize function over form. Aim for a bag that’s as simple as possible, yet can accommodate all of the things you need for work at the same time.

    Three-Piece Suit
A new year might not seem like significant cause to buy yourself a new suit, but a three-piece job is always a good buy – regardless of the time of year – if you don’t already have one. It’s an even better idea now that it’s turning out to be such a major fashion trend.

Throwing a vest into the standard two-piece mix has its advantages. First of all, it adds some definition and shape to your midsection, thanks to the support of the vest. From a practical standpoint, it lets you look sharp and dapper even when you’ve ditched your jacket – something you’re wont to do anyway. At the same time, you get to adopt a much more mature and traditional look, without necessarily looking stuffy if the suit’s cut right.

A three-piece suit in black can seem much too imposing even for the highest officers in the office. Pick one up in navy or gray instead so that you don’t end up like you meant to dress up for an opera gala. Chalk or pin stripes should also help lighten the mood of your suit. Wear it like you would your two piece suit, only make an extra effort to pick a tie that stands out to balance the visual real estate of the suit itself.

Quality should be a constant factor in all your fashion purchases. Remember that these are investments and not mere expenses, so you’ve also got to think about whether the items can last at least a few years of service.

Leap Year: Worst Film in Year 2010 ?

film: leap yearWhat do women’s pictures have against women? So often recently, romantic comedies create a female lead who’s successful in business but a nag, a ditz or klutz at human relationships. And when it comes to men, she’s myopic: she can’t see Andy Adorable right in front of her. These afflictions beset the career gals played by Sandra Bullock in The Proposal, Katherine Heigl in The Ugly Truth and Sarah Jessica Parker in Did You Hear About the Morgans?. All were obliged to take a course in sensitivity training, at feature-film length, to nudge them into the arms of, respectively, Ryan Reynolds, Gerard Butler and Hugh Grant — guys whose job was to wait around attractively until the leading lady comes to her senses. In each case, she’s uptight because she can’t love herself / get out of herself / trust her instincts / spot her costar.

Now it’s Amy Adams’ turn to get hazed. In the mostly awful Leap Year she’s Anna, a beautifier of apartments about to be sold, and she’s nearly engaged to the smarmy Jeremy (another thankless role for Adam Scott, who also exuded essence de smarm as Will Ferrell’s real brother in Step Brothers). She thinks Jeremy’s going to give her The Ring at dinner this evening, but he gives her earrings instead. Impatient to tie a comfortable knot, she resolves to follow him to a business trip to Dublin, where, as Irish tradition supposedly has it, a woman may propose to a man on Leap Year Day — Feb. 29, once every four years. But the plane she takes is rerouted to Wales, and she must travel by turbulent boat, crowded bus, creaky old Renault, unpredictable train and occasionally on foot to reach her beau. Meanwhile she discovers true love in the form of Declan (Matthew Goode), an Irish innkeeper she hates at first sight.

Anna’s means of transportation to Dublin are way more varied and imaginative than the route that the screenwriting team of Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont has Anna take from the dry comfort of Jeremy to the drenched adventure of Declan. You don’t have to have seen the 1945 Brit film I Know Where I’m Going!, with Deborah Kerr as the prissy traveler who finds improbable love, to know that Leap Year is a simple ransacking of older, better movie romances. And of bad ones too: the scene in which Anna and Declan, barely on speaking terms, are forced to have a big smooch in public, got an airing in The Proposal; and the local dance where the warring parties start to fall in love was in… The Morgans? Doesn’t matter; they’re all the same deficient movie. (See “The Never-Ending Role of Sandra Bullock.”)

Anna needs all these mandatory intimacies because she can’t read her heart nearly as well as the dullest member of the audience can. And that’s because, in this sort of rom-com, smart working women are real-world idiots, and need infusions of soul by moving to a different culture where people know how to live. Girls — they’re stupid! Now of course, the guys in modern movie comedies are often dense or boorish, but the men in the audience cheerfully identify with them. They look at the jerks in The Hangover and, smilingly, say, Yep, that’s us. I suspect that women, looking at someone like Anna, are less empathetic than mortified. I was.

In Junebug, Enchanted and Sunshine Cleaning, Adams radiated a warm, perky presence, and she works hard to do so here. But she’s defeated by the indignities in the script (Anna plops in the Irish mud about 63 times) and by director Anand Tucker and director of photography Newton Thomas Sigel. Why do the cinematographers of romantic comedies so often make their leading ladies look like that Nick Nolte mug shot? (In Leathernecks, Sigel cast Renee Zellweger in a similarly unflattering light.) Adams is 35, and all we see are her crow’s feet. Which at least gives you something to count when you tire of checking your watch.

Observing the critic’s code of scrupulous fairness, I have to say that Leap Year becomes very nearly bearable in the last reel, when the two leads can finally radiate a little mutual charisma. That’s mostly thanks to Goode, who had what we’ll call the Jeremy Irons role in the 2008 Brideshead Revisited remake, and who is Colin Firth’s lover in A Single Man. Here he agreeably inhabits his character even as he somehow stands outside the film, fixing it with the same skeptical eye Declan focuses on Anna. “The countryside’s pretty and the pay’s OK,” Goode’s attitude seems to say, “and it’s not my disaster.” Welcome another gentleman Brit to possible leading-man status in Hollywood. Everyone else involved should redact Leap Year from his or her résumé.

Mind you, the early part of the year is always a dumping ground for crappy movies. In January 2009 we had My Bloody Valentine, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, Chandni Chowk to China and the implausibly popular Taken. Later this month we’ll be treated to the spectacles of Jackie Chan as a babysitter in The Spy Next Door and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a brutal hockey player who’s forced to become The Tooth Fairy. But in February there’s the new Martin Scorsese, plus a fine French thriller A Prophet and the sequel to the parkour classic District 13. So there’s reason for optimism at the movie houses, long before the next Leap Year Day.
